Welcome to the Hot Mix 18 HELP page

This help page is intended to explain the different areas of Hot Mix and to guide you through the navigation and controls.

This CD-ROM is optimized for Netscape 3.0.

You'll notice that when you roll your cursor over a hypertext link, you'll see the path located in the bottom left corner of your Netscape window. Most of the links are local within the CD and some are links to the World Wide Web.

We've included some sounds that play when you scroll over various navigational elements. To turn sounds off, click on the 'toggle sound' icon below.

Main Navigation Area of Hot Mix

The upper navigation bar provides navigational control for all the main sections on the CD. As you rollover each option, it lights up. The option you click on will take you to that area and will remain highlighted so you always know where you are on the CD. Please note that when you select `Gallery', you are taken into the Gallery area which includes an additional navagational bar. (see Gallery navigation below)

  • Overview - Provides an overview of what you will find on the CD, details on how to win a copy of Elastic Reality® from Avid Technology, and important links to other parts of the CD.

  • Featured Vendors - Links to an alphabetical listing of all featured vendors participating on Hot Mix 18.

  • Featured Products - Links to an alphabetical listing of all featured products available on Hot Mix 18.

  • Solutions Directory - Links to the complete Solutions Directory listing over 2700 products available on the Silicon Graphics platform.

  • For Developers - Lists of programs and resources to aid in development.

  • Gallery - Links to exhibits, featuring explorations of new technologies.

  • Help - Links to this page.

  • Search - Search through contents of Hot Mix 17. Important note: this search engine will NOT run on the Macintosh or PC platforms. Click here for more information on Search.

Secondary Navigation

For Featured Vendors and Products

The secondary navigation for both products and vendors resides in the horizontal bar that runs across the top of the frame. You can either select `All', any of the alpha sort groups, or select a `Category' from the dropdown menu.

Accessing the Hot Mix Presentations

Hot Mix 18 vendors and products are available to view alphabetically, or they can be viewed by solution categories: Content Development, Media Delivery, Design and Manufacturing, Peripherals, Software Development, Visual Simulation, or Business Computing. This will bring you to an alphabetical listing of solutions available in that particular category. To access a vendors presentation, click on the company or product name. This will bring up the transition page. Click on the link to access the vendors presentation.

To get back to the vendor listing, click on the vendor icon in the main navigation area.

Solutions Directory

The secondary navigation for the Solutions Directory resides in the horizontal bar that runs across the top of the frame. You can select from any of the categories listed across this bar.

Gallery Navigation

The `Gallery' link from the main page leads you to the four exhibits on the CD. Use the secondary navigation to access the exhibit of your choice.

BOLT Indicates that there is demonstration software within the presentation. BOLT Indicates that there is a video within the presentation.

README for Non-SGI Users

Instructions:

Open up your browser of choice and point it to the index.html file in this directory. (for Netscape: File --> Open File in Browser)

Important Notes:

The `Search' feature included on the Hot Mix 17 CD-ROM will NOT work on systems other than SGI.

Most of the Software included on this CD is intended to be run on the SGI platform and therefore will NOT work on systems other than SGI.

All of the Games included on this CD are designed to run on the SGI platform will NOT work on any other platform.

You can turn your Java and JavaScript on and off in Netscape from (Network Preferences --> Languages panel)

If you do not have a frames-capable browser, the functionality of the CD will be limited. Alternatively, you can visit Hot Mix on the Web at http://www.sgi.com/Products/HotMix.

Hot Mix 17 utilizes a 900 by 800 pixel area, for the best results set your monitor for at least a 1024 x 768 display resolution.

If at any time you experience a loss of controls or an image breaks it may be necessary to reload that page. Please hold you shift key down and click on the reload button.

Important notes for Mac Users:

When the CD is mounted for the first time it may come up with an error message. Click OK; This can be safely ignored. The system will then automatically start to rebuild the desktop on the CD. This happens only once. You can safely ignore and stop this process.
